Vice-Chair

Thomas Isett is the President of Always Best Care Senior Services serving the senior population with services like in-home care, free Assisted Living placement services, transportation services…pretty much anything that can help out a senior and their families.
Tom is a lifelong resident of Southeast Michigan and a 30 year resident of Macomb County. A graduate of Central Michigan University, Tom is passionate about the senior population and helping those in need regardless of their situation. He has helped countless veterans, disabled veterans, and the elderly that need assistance. His company is in 40 states and five countries serving thousands of seniors every day. Tom is actively involved with many charitable organizations like the Alzheimer’s Association, the Scleroderma Foundation, and the American Cancer Society just to name a few. Tom was also a member of the Leadership Macomb Class XVI. Tom has vast knowledge of resources available in the community and his passion for helping the senior population will be of great benefit to the Martha T. Berry Foundation.

Patrick Simasko

For over 18 years Patrick has been an elder law attorney. He has dedicated his legal career to Elder Law and has assisted hundreds of families in planning fortheir future, protecting their assets and receiving available financial and medical benefits. Patrick has conducted numerous seminars/workshops throughout theState of Michigan as well as nationally to help educate communities about Elder Law, Financial Planning, Medicaid and the VA Benefit Aid & Attendance.

Janice Nearon

Janice is a graduate of the University of Detroit (B.A. 1970). She was the President of Chene Machine Repair, Inc. for over 30 years. Janice is currently the President of Nearon Consulting, LLC. Janice is active with the Macomb Republican politics and has served as the Chair of the County Party for 6 years. Janice has also served as Vice Chair and Chair of the 12th District Republicans. In addition, Janice was a Member of the St. Clair Shores Beautification Commission for more than 15 years. Currently, Janice is the Vice Chair of the St. Clair Shores Women’s Civic League. She also holds an appointment on the Board of Canvassers, and the Michigan Women’s Commission and the Department of Human Services. Janice has been married to her husband, William Nearon, for 37 years. They have four grown children and eight precious grandchildren.

Susan Burkhardt is the Vice President of Healthcare Integration at Medstar Ambulance. She is a graduate of Central Michigan University and Northwood University. Susan is very involved in community service and serves as a council member for the City of New Baltimore, MI. In addition, Susan is very experienced in community relations, business development, fundraising, as well as community outreach and development.

Tricia Ennest is a Business Developement Officer with Level One Bank in the greater Detroit area. Tricia is very involved in community service and with local businesses and has attended numerous ribbon cuttings, breakfast and business, network and learn, economic alliance events, luncheons, expos, and much more community events throughout the years. In addition, Tricia presently serves on the board of the Anchor Bay Chamber of Commerce as a director and is a member of the Martha T. Berry Foundation located in Mt. Clemens. Tricia’s love for volunteerism and mentoring displays her true commitment to the betterment of our community. Tricia was also honored with the Ambassador of the Year (2013) award by the Sterling Heights Regional Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Tricia, her husband John and daughter Willow are residents of St. Clair Shores.

Sharyl Smith

Sharyl Smith is Vice-President of Marketing, Planning and Public Relations for McLaren Macomb. In this role she is responsible for all marketing and advertising for McLaren Macomb and McLaren Oakland. Smith became involved with the American Heart Association in 2009, and soon found that the Go Red initiative resonated with her. The fight against heart disease is a personal one for Smith, who lost both her parents to heart-related illnesses. Smith came to McLaren from the Detroit Medical Center’s Detroit Receiving Hospital. During her seven-year tenure, she held roles of increasing responsibility, rising to administrative director of marketing before leaving the corporation. Prior to her time at the Detroit Medical Center, Smith’s background included Airfoil Public Relations, Franco Public Relations Group and Trinity Health’s Mercy Detroit Hospital. Smith earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Eastern Michigan University and is accredited in public relations (APR). Smith is a member of the Society for Healthcare Strategy & Market Development, the American College of Healthcare Executives and Inforum. She also serves on the boards of Black Family Development, Inc. and the Macomb Health and Fitness Foundation. Smith currently resides in Farmington Hills, with her husband and two daughters.

Jody is a member of the American Business Women’s Association as well as the Alpha Phi International Fraternity. Jody is a Winning Futures mentor and DPS reading volunteer. She also is involved with the March of Dimes as a volunteer, the American Heart Association, Boys & Girls Club and Angels of Hope.

John Barlow

John Barlow is the Founder and President of J.L Barlow & Associates. His firm specializes in advertising and has over 35 years of political advertising experience, in several states throughout the Mid – West Michigan. John is a graduate of Michigan State University (BA and MBA) and the Detroit College of Law (JD).
